I have to say, that in “On My Way,” at first I thought they’d had Sebastian act like a shithead to Dave just so that they could have an excuse to have him in the episode and explain why the Warblers weren’t doing Michael Jackson at Regionals.
But as I was discussing the episode with a friend, she pointed out to me that Sebastian was probably a pretty direct contributor to Dave’s suicide attempt.
Think about it - Sebastian essentially ruined Dave’s one positive gay outlet.
I mean, Dave was still closeted, still unwilling to reveal his sexuality in public, but he was making baby steps and taking initiative to explore his gay identity at Scandals. Scandals was the one place where he was expressing himself totally and in a positive way with other people who were like him.
And there’s Sebastian, telling him he’s fat and ugly. Sebastian, saying, “You, get a guy? Please.” Sebastian, telling Dave to “stay in the closet.”
I mean, to Sebastian, that’s just par for the course. It’s how he usually is - he sees no problem tearing a strip off some deluded loser who thinks he has a chance with him at a gay bar.
But to Dave? Think about how he must have seen it. Dave probably already guessed that his straight teammates wouldn’t accept him - but now, at Scandals, he’s essentially told that he doesn’t fit in with gay people, either. He’s told by a hot, confident gay boy that people like Dave don’t belong. That he doesn’t fit in. So if he doesn’t fit in with his straight team mates and he doesn’t fit in with the gay guys at Scandals, where does Dave fit in?
In other words, MY HEART.

WEEPINGGGGGGGGGGGG
Exactly my thoughts after that scene between them in Scandals. Dave just couldn’t have one thing, could he?
Well, and this is why...Sebastian’s turn-around isn’t completely ridiculous. Clearly when...
